From the King James Bible

Zechariah 9:9 and Zechariah 9:10

Most of this text is taken directly from the words of the King James Bible, with the exception of the line, “He is the righteous Saviour.” In the King James Bible, that passage is translated instead as “he is just, and having salvation, lowly.” The Messiah version is not as precise, but better suits the oratorio’s theme.
